Who we are
Curiocité is an app published by Ulma Studio. For any question about your data: [email protected]
In short
Curiocité does not ask you to create an account, contains no advertising and sells no data. Your location never leaves your phone. The only information sent to our servers is anonymous audience statistics, sent only if you have an internet connection. You can turn them off at any time. These statistics are used only to improve the app.
What stays on your phone
- Your location. With your permission, Curiocité uses your location to reveal the places around you and let you know when you are getting close to one. On Android, it is only used while the app is open. On iPhone, if you allow it, it can also be used in the background to alert you during your walk. It is never sent to our servers or to anyone else.
- Your discoveries, your language and the downloaded content are stored only on your device.
- Notifications are created directly by your phone. No notification server is used.
What is sent to our servers
- Content downloads. To work offline, the app downloads the places, stories, images and podcasts from our servers. As with any internet connection, your IP address is technically transmitted to the server. It is kept in our host's technical logs for 3 days at most, to ensure the security and proper operation of the service. It is never recorded together with the audience statistics.
- Anonymous audience statistics. Each time the app is opened, Curiocité sends your phone's operating system (iOS or Android), the app version and the language you chose. When you reveal a place, if your phone is online at that moment, it also sends the identifier of that place. Nothing else: not your location, no device identifier. The server only records the date of receipt. The stored statistics contain no identifier: it is impossible to link two submissions to the same person. These statistics only tell us on which devices and in which languages the app is used, and which places are discovered the most. They are kept for 25 months at most, then deleted automatically, and are never passed on to third parties.
- Turning these off: in the app, go to Profile → Privacy → “Send these anonymous statistics” and choose “No”. Your choice applies immediately.
Phone backups
If your phone's backup is turned on (Google backup on Android, iCloud on iPhone), your list of discoveries may be included, so that you find it again when you change device. This backup is managed by Google or Apple, under your account.
Third-party services
Curiocité uses no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking tools. The base map is built into the app; the map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Hosting
Our servers are hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. (United States), through its global server network. Transfers of data outside the European Union are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
Legal basis
Anonymous audience statistics and technical logs rely on our legitimate interest in running and improving the app. You can object to audience statistics at any time from the app.
Children
Curiocité collects no data that could identify its users, children included.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right of access, rectification, erasure and objection. As we keep no data that could identify you, we generally cannot retrieve any information about you. You can write to us at [email protected]. You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL (cnil.fr), the French data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with its update date.
